Beaker Prince has been teaching Yoga for SFHP since she entered grad school at OSU in 2002. Today as one of the program’s Full-Time Lecturers, she still teaches yoga – both levels – as well as Basic First Aid/CPR and a No-2-Low Impact section of Rhythmic Aerobics. Beaker’s career path was bound to land itself primarily in yoga because she left her six years of biochemistry research in San Francisco to enter a graduate program in Somatic Studies, the body-mind connection, at OSU. It was during her time in grad school that she realized how much she enjoys teaching, so she pursued additional study in the art and applied science of yoga. With thousands of study and teaching hours under her belt, she holds an ERYT-500 certification, a highly advanced level of knowledge and skill in yoga, and she is registered with Yoga Alliance.
Beaker loves her work. “I like giving students the opportunity to bring their bodies and minds to a different place to help them deal with everyday stresses; to move out of their stress habits on a physical, mental, and emotional level.” She enjoys working directly with people to help them improve their health and their lives.
In her spare time, she likes to read as much as possible about somatics to find new tools to work with people and groups in a variety of therapeutic ways. Beaker is also certified in the Alexander Technique, a method of releasing unwanted muscular tension throughout the body that is often the result of a stressful lifestyle. She recently took her White Belt instructor certification in Nia, a somatics-based form of aerobic dance, and enjoys practicing and sharing this unique cardio workout with others. Besides her personal yoga practice, Beaker enjoys nature and gardening. We might even see her juggling, another one of her many talents!
