Our next featured instructor is: Tami Rankin! Tami has been involved with our program for almost as long as she’s been at The Ohio State University. Tami came here as a student in 2003 and immediately fell in love with our dance courses. So much so, that she took all the available dance classes we offered and started to learn the lead role in dance. Traditionally, leads are males who are responsible for guiding their partner and initiating transitions. However, Tami felt that by learning the lead role, it improved her overall skills and made her a better follow.
During her second year as a student, Tami started assisting the instructors with teaching. Upon graduating in 2008, she was hired on as an instructor and is now one of our Full-Time Lecturers! Tami says that one of the most motivating parts of teaching is seeing the face of a student light up when they figure out how to do a special move. Today, she teaches all of our Dance classes, which include Social Dance 1, Social Dance 2, and Line Dancing, as well as some of our First Aid and CPR classes.
Tami leaves such an amazing impression with her students that many end up taking multiple classes with her. In fact, a few Seniors in her class this semester have had her since their Freshman year. When not teaching on campus, she can be found teaching in the surrounding community. In her spare time, she likes to read, play a game of softball, or do some Crossfit. She also loves watching her Buckeyes succeed in everything they do.
