Description:
Introduction to Flyfishing is intended for the student that has either no or a small amount of fly fishing experience (novice-low intermediate). Students will receive hands-on instruction on all the basics of the sport including equipment, casting, fly tying, safety, fly selection and presentation, fish handling, and locating local public fishing access. Students will spend more time outside on the water than in the classroom.
Cost: approximately $50.00
Includes: 3 indoor classroom sessions, 1 outdoor class session, 2 local evening outings and a Saturday all-day outing. Limited amounts of fishing equipment (rods, reels, lines, leaders) will be available for student rental. Students are encouraged to use their own equipment if they have or can borrow it.

Equipment (students must purchase for class):
- Ohio Fishing License ($25 for annual resident license, $14 for single-day non-resident license, $51 for annual non-resident license). Proper attire for weather and outdoors conditions (e.g. rain jacket, proper footwear). A half dozen flies for use in the class ($15)
What You Will Learn:
- Students will learn both knowledge and kinesthetic skills. The knowledge component of the course is focused on fly fishing equipment (rods, lines, flies) and fish species caught on flies (their behavior, where to find them, what they eat, how to catch them). The skills learned include knots tying, fly tying, fly casting, handling fish, and fishing safety.
What To Expect:
- 1 evening per week for half the semester. The course begins with a few rigorous learning sessions to acquire basic knowledge, followed by several fishing outings to apply your knowledge and skills.

- Most species of fish can be caught on a fly!
- You can fly fish in lakes, oceans, and ponds very effectively.
- Only 2 students have not caught a fish during the class (in over 15 semesters!)
