Class Description:
This course is designed for students with little to no experience with group circuit training, and for those interested in taking a more focused approach to circuit training. The class will introduce students to the concept of circuit training as a means to increased fitness. Students will complete circuits that incorporate both resistance and cardiovascular exercises using both body weight and various types of equipment.
Prerequisites:
None
Equipment (students must purchase for class):
What you will learn:
- The proper and safe use of cardiovascular exercise and resistance training equipment
- Identify and locate various muscle groups and the exercises that effectively train those muscle groups to develop muscular endurance and strength.
- Demonstrate understanding of the basic principles of cardiovascular exercise and resistance training to develop a fitness program based upon the students’ personal goals and objectives
- Show improvement to muscular strength and endurance as evidenced by the tracking of progression using a semester activity log. Students will also demonstrate improvement via a pre- and post- fitness evaluation
- Demonstrate knowledge of current trends and practices related to the subject of fitness.
What to expect:
- A fitness assessment will be conducted
- Participation in a variety of “circuits” provided by the instructor.
Potential Benefits:
- Metabolic improvement
- Cardiovascular fitness
- Whole-body workouts that are time efficient
- Increased strength
Fun facts:
- An all-strength circuit burns 30 percent more calories (about nine per minute) than a typical weight workout and offers more cardio benefits.
- A circuit that combines cardio and strength moves will blast fat and sculpt muscle. It can also burn up to 10 calories a minute.
