Description:
Boxing is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves and other protective equipment such as hand wraps and mouthguards, throw punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time in a boxing ring. This course will teach boxing fundamentals without contact to the head. Students will learn basic strikes, blocks, counterstriking, footwork and sport history.

Equipment (students must purchase for class):
- Mouth guard, boxing gloves (12 or 14 oz), hand wraps (180 inches)

- Engage in boxing while observing safety guidelines
- Perform offensive and defensive techniques
- Demonstrate appropriate sparring technique
- Demonstrate basic footwork and boxing stances
- Explain boxing skills and concepts
- Work cooperatively with classmates and sparring partners
What to expect:
This course includes forms of movement that may contain physical body to body contact in various ways, such as hitting, punching, jabbing, etc. However, this is an introductory course with the emphasis placed on executing proper skills and movements and not the contact itself. Excessive force, violence, or aggression are not required or expected and will not be tolerated. There will be controlled sparring, but NO HARD PUNCHING will be permitted at any time and safety will be emphasized.
This is strictly a course for beginners; those with previous experience in boxing should consult with the instructor.
