KNSFHP 1139.20 Windsurfing
No Experience Required!
The Windsurfing course is an introductory course intended for individuals who have little to no windsurfing or sailing experience. The course will cover topics such as: basic safety requirements and procedures associated with windsurfing, windsurfing maneuvers, tie basic knots and rig a windsurfer, and understanding terminology. These are just the basics. This course will not qualify anyone to sail on waters with tides, currents, surf, or where winds are in excess of ten knots.
Due to the nature of the course, all sessions are mandatory to attend. There will be trips associated with this course to an off-campus site in order to get hands on experience with windsurfing. Your grade will be evaluated based on a combination of participation, knowledge, and skills related to windsurfing.
- Students are responsible for dressing appropriately (coat, hat, gloves, raincoat, etc) for weather conditions. Students departing early due to discomfort from weather will be scored for non-participation.
- Students are responsible for bringing a wetsuit for outdoor activities. Wetsuits are available for rent at the OSU Adventure Recreation Center at 355 Woody Hayes Drive. Wet suits are also available at local dive shops.
- There is a trip fee of $120 due at the first session. This fee covers text, windsurfing equipment for classroom and field trip sessions, and a life jacket. There will be no refund of any trip or activity fees at anytime.
- Class room session times, locations, dates, trip dates, and fees are subject to change. There will be no refund of deposit or trip fee if this is required. A current OSU e-mail address will be used to contact all students enrolled in a class for notification of any changes.
