Whether you’re already a sports fan or you want to learn more about the hype around the different sports, Sport for the Spectator is a great way to develop an appreciation of sport as spectacle, social event, recreational pursuit, business, and entertainment. You’ll be introduced to the basic social psychological concepts relating to the role and impact of spectator sport in North American society.
You’ll gain knowledge of the history, rules, and strategies to facilitate one’s role as a spectator for a variety of sports, and you will do a project that applies these areas to a specific sport. You’ll also learn how to identify issues and factors that influence the sport spectator’s behavior, so you’ll have a greater awareness of what is going on when you watch a game.
Past classes have had the opportunity to tour sport facilities such as the Schottenstein Center and the OSU Stadium as part of the course.
